The most interesting parts of transition events are always the moments when, inspired by the core theme of the meeting, people get a chance to talk about their hopes and aspirations and to discuss ideas. There is, however, never enough time and, as the chairs are stacked, no-one quite gets round to organising a follow on.

“Conversations” is about regularly bringing people with an interest in Transition together and creating a discussion space where ideas can be developed and projects can be initiated.

So, how does "Conversations" work?

We are aiming to hold "Conversations" weekly. Not always in the same place. Not always at the same time. Daytime conversations somewhere that welcomes toddlers. Weekend conversations so people who work all week can get along.

A "Conversations" session will generally start with two or three people speaking - each for a strictly limited ten minutes - about some subject which they have a passion about. These topics will be advertised ahead of time to attract interested participants - but even if you aren't specifically interested in these, come along anyway. The session won't be tied to the advertised subjects.

An early topic will be the discussion of "Transition" and how people see it helping Henley develop sustainability and resilience as the cuts bite, peak oil sends prices soaring and climate change effects become impossible to ignore. We hope that this will lead to a useful range of definitions so that new people at a "Conversations" can be introduced to the concepts behind Transition.
